Biography

Jasper van den Ham (Lelystad, 1978) is a Dutch artist whose work explores the essence of places that have made a deep impression on him, weaving together elements of nature, memory and emotion. Originally trained as a fine art photographer, he discovered his passion for drawing and painting a few years ago. As a photographer he launched a photo book through crowdfunding in 2015 and won the Culture Prize in Woerden. In 2017 he was selected for NewPhoto, a book with the 100 most appealing and emerging photography talents of the Netherlands (Dutch Photography Talent 2017).

His childhood was marked by relocations due to his father’s work, and this may have influenced his artistic approach, leading him to blend memories of various places into new, imagined landscapes.

To clarify, not growing up in the same house or neighborhood meant he never developed a sense of being rooted in one place. Instead, he felt a natural urge to merge elements from different locations into a single composition. This instilled him in a restless curiosity—a desire to explore, to keep moving, and to discover what lies beyond the familiar. His art reflects this search for belonging, as he pieces together fragments from many places to create worlds that exist only in his imagination.

His work has been exhibited at various art fairs and exhibitions, including KunstRAI and Art on Paper in Amsterdam. He is represented by Contempo Gallery in Rotterdam. With a growing presence on social media, he shares his artistic process and upcoming exhibitions with a wide audience.
