“The feeling of arrival, anticipation and looking out toward somewhere unknown”
I have always been drawn to windows, balconies and open doors when arriving somewhere new. There is a moment before going outside when everything is still unfamiliar, but already seems full of possibility. I’m drawn to what is beyond the room, while at the same time enjoying the quiet of being inside.
The scenes in these paintings are imagined. Interiors open onto landscapes that do not exist, bringing together things I have seen, remembered or invented. The window or doorway becomes a threshold between two spaces: the familiarity of the room and the promise of somewhere still unknown.
For me, these paintings hold both feelings at once, the urge to go out and discover a place, and the calm of returning inside and looking back out at it.
