“Memory is not a single thread, but a landscape formed through fragments.”

In The Shape of Remembering, I bring together fragments from different memories and different places. A tree might come from one location, a window from another, while an interior or object may belong to a completely different moment.

These paintings come from the urge to be in different places at the same time. Through painting, separate memories begin to emerge into a single image, as if one recollection can gradually absorb another.

I use these fragments to build new compositions and, in a way, new worlds. They are not reconstructions of places that really existed, but places that emerge through the painting itself.

This also feels close to how memory works for me. Things that were once separate begin to overlap. Different places and moments become connected, until it becomes difficult to say exactly where one memory ends and another begins.
